Helping customers to drive cost transparency

Helping customers to drive cost transparency

One of the key conversations we have with clients as part of our roadmap engagements is about the relationship between cost and value of IT. Often clients know the value of an IT service to their business, identifying core and critical services that underpin business operations but transparency of cost of delivering these services? Much less so.

Understanding the overall cost of ICT is one thing but true transparency of cost opens up new decision-making opportunities for clients in forming and evidencing cases for change, spotting inefficiencies, and enabling comparison of operations versus those in other businesses and sectors.

Our approach to cost analysis is thorough and all-encompassing, categorising spend in ways that drive understanding of costs that ICT can compare against other solutions and service delivery approaches. When matching cost versus the value you can quickly start to pinpoint areas that need more investment, areas that it is not worth further investing in, and areas where further investigation to drive insight are required.

Our Roadmap engagements always look to uncover the true cost of IT, looking at both direct and indirect costs of ICT service delivery and match the cost versus the value that the business is getting back. Only then can the strategy truly articulate the benefits of decisions such as for example, transitioning to public cloud, adopting new desktop delivery technologies, or changing service approach. We enable customers to see not just the cost of adoption but the true cost of change to the ICT service. When bringing estimated efficiency savings in the business through ICT change, then real-world business cases can start to be made for change through this new level of transparency that the business has of ICT.

Our roadmap approach employs a number of methods and techniques, but one we believe delivers strong benefit in this area is Technology Business Management. This is a framework that we believe is closest to the methods and techniques we adopt and you can learn more about it here.
